Story
Shirley was diagnosed in 2012 with Alzheimer’s. She embraced the news and was one of the first members of a pioneering new approach ‘ the golden ticket ‘ to better support dementia in the community.. The aim was to improve the quality of life for the whole dementia journey supporting both the carer and the patient .
Shirley joined weekly golden ticket activities , coffee mornings, exercise classes , woodland walks and many other interactive group sessions . The camaraderie , structure , interaction and fun helped Shirley remain independent for a number of years .
Throughout her Alzheimers journey Shirley often asked why she couldn’t remember things and couldn’t the doctor give her something to help her remember .
The family would be grateful for donations to Alzheimer’s research to help support finding a cure for this dreadful disease and its devastating impact for the individual and the family.
‘Research is making gains but still so much to do.’
