Story
In December 2017, with half my hair curled ready for a night out, I received a phonecall that changed my life - I had a brain tumour.
Immediately my thoughts went to the worst - will I see my daughter grow up? Is this my last Christmas?
Fortunately, as brain tumours go, you'd sort of want mine. And, although it wasn't fully benign, so more likely to return, I had a successful operation to remove the "mouse" in 2019.
Physically I recovered very quickly but mentally was a different story...horrendous brain fog, not being able to do my then 7 year old's homework and slurring like I'd been on the G&T's constantly. However, I had a great squad of family and friends around me to support me through. I still get incredibly tired mentally, get pain from my scar and the "scanxiety" around MRI time is definitely real, and sometimes crippling.
To celebrate me being, so far, still tumour free, myself and some of my favourite people have decided to do a charity walk in Henley-on-Thames on 23rd September 2023. This date marks the 4th anniversary of my op.
Ali, Karen and Kirsten are the sensible ones doing 10K, then hitting the pub to wait for Cat, Sam and me to finish the 50K (think we were drunk when we signed up!).
We are raising money for the Brain Tumour Charity who do fantastic work to fight this horrible disease. I was one of the lucky ones but it's one of the biggest killers out there and so many, young and old, need help. Anything you could spare would be incredible and very gratefully received.
