Story
Thank you very much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you know, in 2008 I became seriously ill with a neurological condition called chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy, or CIDP for short.
Over the course of the next year, the signals from my brain stopped reaching my nerves, my muscles wasted away and I eventually became paralysed from the neck to my feet. I could not move anything except for my head.
I was looked after by Kings hospital for five months and had treatment such as Ig, steroids, chemo and radiotherapy. I was then moved into my mum and dad's house where I stayed in the front room unable to move for almost 2 years. I had to rely on my family, friends and my carers to wash, dress me, feed me and take me to hospital to see my specialists, physios, therapists and for further chemo.
I now consider myself extremely lucky as I am able to walk short distances with the aid of ankle/foot splints and walking sticks. For longer distances, I rely on my electric wheelchair as my hands are also still partially paralysed and I cannot use a manual wheelchair.
Just before I became ill, my nephew Michael, who is now 10, was born, and then in 2008 my niece Lily who is now 8.
For differing reasons, both Michael and Lily have cerebral palsy and also cannot walk without aids such as walking frames and wheelchairs.
They are both inspirational children and are both doing their best to be able to walk as well and also have physios, etc.
This is the reason I am desperate to raise money for Whizz-kidz as they supply wheelchairs for other disabled children, train them in wheelchair skills and help them to become independent.
Along with Michael and Lily, I am going to join in the Parallel London event which is going to be held at the Olympic Park. During the event we are going to attempt to walk/wheel 10 km to raise awareness and funds for this fantastic charity.
I know there are a lot of charities out there but whizzkids doesn't always get as much publicity as the others.
Please, if you can spare any money at all, even if it is your 1p, 2p collection at home, I would be so grateful if you would donate it to my fundraising page (or I will collect it!)
Thank you again.😊😊😊
