In memory of Anna Lucy Mary Lewis, 9th February 2011 - 01st April 2012.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I shall be running the Great North Run on 11th September 2016 & the Royal Parks Half Marathon on 9th October 2016; both to raise money for the Anna Lewis Brighter Future Fund.
I will be running the Royal Parks Half with over 100 others as part of #TeamAnna100, helping raise money for Great Ormond Street Children's Charity in memory of Anna.
Anna tragically died aged only 1, on 01st April 2012. Anna was a happy and healthy baby until she suddenly became ill with seizures in January 2012. 8 weeks later Anna was diagnosed at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) with Alpers' Syndrome, a rare form of Mitochondrial Disease.
Sadly there is no treatment or cure for Mitochondrial Disease, and Anna died at GOSH just two weeks after diagnosis, surrounded by her family.
I have had the pleasure of meeting Anna's amazing mum Jess Lewis - I have been touched and inspired by her strength, courage and determination.
Jess, her husband David, and Anna's big sister Holly; supported by friends and family, have been fundraising tirelessly in the 4 years since Anna's tragic death. They are aiming to reach a target of £250,000. To date they have raised nearly £200,000 in Anna's memory!
The money you donate will go to the Anna Lewis Brighter Future Fund, to help fund The Mitochondrial Research Group at GOSH, so that in the future there may be treatments or even a cure for this cruel and heartbreaking disease.
This will be my second year running the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon, and it will always be a special event, being my first ever half marathon last year. I am privileged and honoured to be able to raise money in memory of Anna, whilst challenging myself to achieve hopefully another PB time.
