Update 15/8/22:
Firstly,
thank you so much for all your donations to date. Following Harry’s
hydrotherapy success, challenge no 2 was my choice. So, due to
having started cycling with Harry in 2020 for our ‘not so stay at home’
challenge, cycling has now become part of my weekly routine.
Well out of my comfort zone, I have just completed the Devon (Ilfracombe to Plymouth coast to coast route.
114 miles over 3 days. 12 hours cycling time, 8,258 ft climbed! I’ve learnt that
Devon is very beautiful, extremely hilly, and hugely challenging for me
on a push bike.
Watch
this space for Harry and my next challenge, eagerly anticipated in
September!
Thank
you again for all your generous donations.
Harry
and Hazel xx
Harry's Story:
Harry was referred to White Lodge Children’s therapy team at the
age of 16 months because of his diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy. Already at that early age, he had an
inquisitive nature and showed real determination. Throughout various medical
interventions he continued to make excellent progress and by the time he was
attending White Lodge Nursery, he was learning to walk with his own Kaye
walker.
When the first lockdown came in March 2020, he had just had a
specialist tricycle delivered so using this, together with Hazel, (his
physiotherapist), they set up Harry and Hazel’s not so stay at home heroes
cycling challenge. This was hugely successful and so, they have now created the
‘Harry and Hazel’s 60 for being 6 and 60ish’ challenge.
The first of 6 instalments: 6 challenges
in the Hydrotherapy Pool
Swimming 6 widths of the pool
Walking 6 widths of the pool using ankle
weights
Lying on his back opening and closing his
legs 6x6 times
Floating independently. goal of 6 seconds
exceeded- 19 seconds floating.
Diving x 6 to collect 6 toys
Squat on the bottom of the pool and
explode up out of the water to finish
