Story
My name is Harry Summerill. I am 18 and I am running 50km (31.1 miles) to raise money for Cancer Research. Like many people, cancer has affected my family greatly. I lost my wonderful Nan and Grandad, as well as a very close family friend, all in the space of three years. Our nation's response to the COVID pandemic has been amazing but, as a result cancer charities have suffered. Cancer Research UK has recently been forced to cut its research budget dramatically due to cancellation of fundraising events, and suspension of trading at the 600 CRUK shops across the country. Thanks to phenomenal research work over the last 40 years, cancer survival in the UK has doubled. In the 1970s, just 1 in 4 people survived their disease for 10 years or more. Today 2 in 4 survive. Every penny donated to Cancer Research is a contribution to saving lives.
I am a keen footballer, and while this was on hold in lockdown, I started doing a few runs to keep my fitness up. On one such run, the thought occurred to me that maybe I could raise a few pounds to support the fantastic work of Cancer Research UK. With the help of my PT for the run, James Seeley of The PT Academy Bristol, and my amazing Mum and Dad who have helped me with my diet and supported me on my longer runs, I have been able to train and prepare myself for this battle. I would be extremely grateful if you could sponsor me, and any encouragement would be welcomed! My route on the day starts at Ashton Court, and from there I head down the Portway to Avonmouth village. Then on to St Andrews Road, past Chittening, to Seabank, and return to Ashton Court before heading into Long Ashton to finish. The run will take place around the end of June depending on the training and the weather! Many thanks, Harry.
