Story
In September 2022, I will be cycling 1000 miles across the UK from Land's End, Cornwall to John O'Groats, Scotland. I am taking part in this cycle ride to raise funds for Hospiscare. Hospiscare is a local charity, caring for terminally ill patients and their families across Exeter, Mid and East Devon. Their teams of doctors and nurses offer specialist palliative care, to ensure that patients can make the most of the time they have left.
Hospiscare is a charity that my family has always been involved in. My Nana, Marnie Burgoyne, was part of the founding team that helped to raise the money to build the Hospice building, Searle House. Marnie continued to support and fundraise for many years until she was sadly diagnosed with terminal cancer and received palliative care at the hospice until her passing. My Grandad continued to fundraise in my Nana's memory and is still raising money for the charity to this day.
Hospiscare relies on fundraising and donations to fund the care of 4 out of every 5 patients. The covid-19 pandemic has resulted in cancelled fundraising events and limited retail income, which has really hit the charity hard – they’re expecting a loss of £1.5m in the next financial year.
I am taking on the Land's End to John O'Groats challenge to do what I can to help make sure that Hospiscare continue to provide their services for many years to come. Please help me to make a difference by donating today. All donations are greatly appreciated.
