Story
You might be surprised to hear I am running the Lewa Half Marathon on Saturday 24th June. Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is considered a challenging course at 1,700m altitude, under the African sun and of course the wildlife…
More importantly, I am doing this for Mikey and Annie Cecil, whose daughter Isla was taken away after a short illness in November 2012. Isla was diagnosed by Great Ormond Street on 7th October 2012 with a rare brain tumour that was inoperable and untreatable, she slipped away a month to the day later.
Mikey and Annie created the 'The Isla Cecil Brighter Future Fund (within the Great Ormond Street Children's Charity) as they felt it is unacceptable in this day and age that there is no hope given post diagnosis for a child so young. The Charity has assisted Isla's Oncologist in the creation of a much needed 5 year research programme into rare childhood brain tumour of which ETANTR, Isla's tumour, falls within.
Mikey and I became great friends doing our Masters together at Reading University.
I am not athlete, but I am a Dad who feels very passionate about "Isla's Brighter Future". Should you wish to give something, however small, I would be so grateful.
Thank you. Harry
