Story
Chinmaya Mission (CM) is a worldwide organization that creates vehicles for self-unfoldment: from institutes that train teachers, to a series of workshops, lectures and camps, to regular study classes for adults, children and youth, to social service and educational projects (including schools, hospitals, rural development and retirement homes), to a rich array of literature in print, audio and video media that teaches the philosophy of self-discovery in more than 300 centres worldwide. It is dedicated to teaching individuals from any background the art of enriching personalities and self-development, enabling them to become positive contributors to society.
I always wanted to run the London Marathon again after completing the course in 1994 in 3hrs 29mins. I’ve always been a keen runner completing many half marathons each year and wanted a new challenge. Having experienced the atmosphere of the London Marathon back in 1994, I wanted to relive that moment and the ecstasy of crossing the finishing line at 26.2 miles. Twenty years on and come Sunday 13 April 2014, I will have the opportunity to run it again.
Both my children have been attending Bal Vihar in Harrow for 6 years run by the Chinmaya Mission. It is great to see them develop and learn about life values thanks to the great support given by staff. When the opportunity came along to support the charity in the great work they do, I wanted to play a part and give something back. Running the marathon is about discipline and belief in your inner self that you can achieve this goal. I will be amazed if I achieve my time of 20 years ago, but I will aim to do it in under 4 hours. I am up for the challenge so please support me in raising as much money as possible for a truly wonderful charity.
