Story
Easily THE most scary thing I’ve ever volunteered to do!
My friend Jo and I will be jumping/falling out of an aeroplane at around 10,000 -15,000 ft strapped to another human (who hopefully knows what they’re doing and remembers to pull the parachute open about half way down!)
I’ll be doing this mid Summer (July 3rd) to raise money for Coeliac UK.
For those of you that don’t know, I was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease in March 2020 after suffering for years with stomach pains, chronic fatigue, fainting spells, brain fog, anaemia, malnutrition, the list goes on. The symptoms got much worse after having our second little beautiful girl as the exhaustion got out of control and would leave me almost unable to function. Unfortunately, my diagnosis from my GP came the day of national lockdown leaving my referrals to consultants, specialists and dietitians on-hold for the foreseeable. So I turned to Coeliac UK. They’ve supported me on how to navigate through gluten withdrawals (yep, they’re a thing!), managing pain and exhaustion whilst also changing my gluten-rich Italian diet to going completely gluten free over-night. Hearing other people journeys helped immensely and having information available that was well informed and trustworthy was the number one priority when all you have is Google!
It’s not just Coeliac UK that’s helped me. I have a wonderful husband who’s done nothing but support me immensely, beautiful daughters who’ve kept me strong, loving parents who’ve taken time to learn with me to keep me food safe, an amazing sister along with her family have helped me keep all the plates spinning and of course a few remarkable friendships. They’ve all contributed to wiping my tears, holding my hand, feeding me good stuff, offering hope, strength and have all nurtured me on my two-year recovery.
Yes, I’m absolutely terrified and yes, I feel sick at the thought of a skydive BUT if it raises awareness for Coeliacs Disease, I might just get to help another human through their journey too.
So please, please dig deep and give whatever you can afford to raise awareness and important funding.
