Story
I sadly lost my mum to suicide on Good Friday, 10th April 2020. I dread to think how my mum felt throughout last March, I can only imagine the gruelling mental strength she endured throughout that time.
To honour my mum, I am going to run/walk 100 miles throughout March 2021. This will be a considerable challenge for me as I am by no means an avid runner. I think I ran 2.3 miles earlier in January and that felt gruelling on its own, nevermind the other 97.7 miles.
March is a significant month for me. March 2020 was the last full month I had with my mum which I took so for granted. March 2021 holds the first Mothers day without her and her birthday which I will not get to spend with her. Mum's birthday is March 31st so I will be finishing this challenge on a significant date but this is only 2 days prior to her 'Good Friday' anniversary. This time will allow me to have that time with her, channel all my strength into dealing with such a significant month but also the opportunity to raise money for a very heartfelt charity which I am now proudly an ambassador for.
The money I raise will be going towards funding counselling for individuals who are bereaved by suicide. Suicide&Co are going to be funding counselling services, each individual will be entitled to 6 - 12 sessions. The 'typical' private rate for counselling is £40 for 40 minutes so I have set my target to raise 12 counselling sessions.
I will be recording my run/walk on my apple watch to evidence to all of you my progress throughout March and a total figure on March 31st.
I would greatly appreciate any spare pennies, even if each person who see's this donates a £1. Every penny will definitely be very greatly appreciated by myself, the charity and the individual requiring the counselling.
Statement by Suicide&Co
We are supporting those bereaved by suicide, because suicide always has company. The most recent figures show that there were a reported 6,507 suicides in the UK, that number multiplies when you think of the family & friends left behind. At Suicide&Co, our aim is to start a conversation about suicide-related grief. We recognise that an end like this, should be the start of many new conversations. We want to raise money to offer counselling grants to those bereaved from suicide.
