Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running miles and miles to raise money to train facilitators of DSDC's best practice in dementia care course, meaning more people can live well with dementia.

7th January - Great Edinburgh Winter Run
23rd April - The Great Edinburgh Run
21st May - The Stirling Scottish Marathon
1st October - Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Half Marathon

Last year I had two rounds of back surgery to correct bulging discs which meant that I wasn't able to walk more than a few steps. Thanks to the knowledge and care of my neurosurgeon and hospital staff I have made a good recovery. Without the specialist knowledge of staff to ensure that I was able to return to fitness this could have been a very different story. Specialist knowledge ensures that people receive the right kind of care at the right time which is appropriate to them. This is important no matter what the condition, but non more so than for  people living with dementia....

The Dementia Services Development Centre provide a range of sustainable education and training programmes. High quality training and education helps grow the confidence, knowledge and skills that make a difference to people with dementia, improve professional practice and enhance careers.

I am raising money to enable 3 people to be trained on the flagship Best Practice in Dementia Care Learning Program. The programme enhances the practice of front line staff working with people with dementia, providing regular opportunities for them to reflect on their practice. During the training students will cover a range of topics designed to help them to think about their practice from the perspective of the person living with dementia and their family subsequently improving the standard of care for people and improving wellbeing.

It costs just £1500 to train a staff member as a facilitator of the learning programme. They can then facilitate learning for 8 front line staff, in turn ensuring that many more people living with dementia and their families receive informed, compassionate care and support.
