Virgin London Marathon 2016 · 24 April 2016 ·
Well two years ago who'd have thought it? The girl who wouldn't run for a bus and arrived huffing and puffing to cardiac arrest crash bleeps is running 26 miles for RAPt! #thisgirlcan!
RAPt (the Rehabilitation for Addicted Prisoners Trust) delivers treatment services in 26 prisons and six community projects across the country, to help people overcome the grip of addiction and live a fulfilled and positive life free from drugs and crime. Approximately 20,000 people a year use a RAPt service, from light touch interventions through to intensive treatment programmes, but the families and communities who also benefit, means the impact resonates far wider.
You guys are all far too noble to get judge-y but for anyone wondering- research shows that the intensive rehabilitation treatment programme leads to a 20% reduction in the numbers of released prisoners re-offending, and a 65% reduction in overall number of offences. For every 100 people completing the RAPt 12-Step intensive prison programme, an estimated £6.3 million is saved due to reduced repeat offending. million is saved due to reduced repeat offending. Making the RAPt 12-Step prison programme available to just 10% of the drug dependent prisoners would equate to potential savings of £440 million a year.
So look out for some events where there may be cake, dancing or the opportunity to laugh at me making a fool of myself in the run up to the end of April.
