Story
Thank you for taking the time to look at my page. In the summer of 2014, I will be departing to Honduras for a volunteer year. There I will be doing volunteer work by working in a local primary school to teach local children English. I am able to do this because of the charity Project Trust who send 17 to 19 year olds to all corners of the world to do volunteer work.
To become part of this charity was not easy, I attended a 4 day selection course on the island of Coll which took 3 days of travelling to get to. While there I had to teach a lesson, do a presentation on an aspect of Coll, community work, lived with a local family and so much more. Luckily, as they only select around 80% of people who apply, I was offered a place to volunteer in Honduras.
I must raise £5,600 for my volunteer year which is quite difficult when trying to complete 4 A Levels successfully. However, I have been amazed by people's generosity and kindness, from complete strangers during supermarket collections, to old family friends. Out of everything I have done so far, the skydive was by far the best experience. It was terrifying but in an exciting way. I would like to thank every one at Skydive Cornwall and Cornwall Parachute Club, who made the experience as enjoyable as it was.
Honduras is currently changing with one of the fastest growing economies in Central America. However, it is also the second poorest. Additionally, 60% of the population are affected by poverty, with a further 36% living in extreme poverty. Being able to speak English is incredibly valuable for young Hondurans, as it leads to future employment possibilities as the country's tourism sector grows. While I am in Honduras, I will live with a fellow Project Trust volunteer, who I won't meet until about a month before I leave for my volunteer year. While away, I hope to become fluent in Spanish.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and any donation would be greatly welcomed and I would be very thankful.
