Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was lucky to win a ballot place for the London Marathon in October 2015. It is only last week that I decided to take part in the event, thanks to some warm encouragement from a kind GP at work. I haven’t managed to train because I have let difficult life events get the better of me, so I will be looking to make the most of the experience within the conditions which surround me at this time. Although I hadn’t imagined I would be taking part under these circumstances, and I would love to run the whole way, I am determined not to let the opportunity pass me by and to tick this off my bucket list in whichever way that will be!
I would also like to use this opportunity to raise money for the Pankhurst Trust which supports Manchester Women's Aid, because of the work they do to support women and children who are experiencing or are at risk of domestic abuse. The month I won the ballot place coincided with the time I finally decided to leave an emotionally and economically abusive relationship. I am still living with the consequences of being in a relationship of this nature and of my decision to leave.
This will be the most physically and mentally demanding event I have attempted so far as I am the least practiced beforehand. Any donation however small would be greatly appreciated and will help to keep me going towards the finish, and in turn help MWA to keep many women and children safe, and empowered through education and awareness.
I am looking forward to Sunday and glad of the opportunity to raise awareness of some of the effects of emotional and financial abuse. It's exciting to still believe in and have a go at achieving one of my dreams regardless of any perceived hindrances.
The running community harbours a loving, positive and resilient spirit like no other and I can’t think of a better way to demonstrate how the love and support of loved ones and likeminded people can make a huge difference to a person’s life.
Thank you for your support and any donations.
