Handicap International's Philippines typhoon appeal, 12 November 2013
We support disabled and vulnerable people to ensure they are never left behind

Story

More than 9 million people have had their lives devastated by the monster storm that struck the Philippines on Friday, 8th November. Whole cities have been destroyed and many are now struggling to survive without food, shelter or drinking water. In the midst of this tragedy, disabled and vulnerable people are especially at risk.

That is why I am asking you to make a donation today.

Handicap International is planning to identify vulnerable people, help them access humanitarian aid, provide mobility aids (crutches, wheelchairs) and support rehabilitation care for disabled and injured people.

“The devastation is worse than in Bandah Aceh, Indonesia, following the 2004 tsunami,” said Edith van Wijngaarden, our programme director in the Philippines.

“When nothing is left standing and the local infrastructure is destroyed, people with disabilities, older people and children are particularly vulnerable. We absolutely have to supply them with relief.”
