Story
My goal is to raise money and awareness of FND by completing 500 miles collectively as a team throughout April.
I would love to encourage people to run/walk/cycle/wheelchair and add their miles to my overall tally.
I am aiming to walk at least 1 mile a day. This is the furthest I have managed to walk and takes me around an hour.
I would love to see photos of people completing the challenge and tag on Instagram. My account is “iwillwalk500miles2020” 😊.
I was diagnosed with FND in March 2020 and was in a wheelchair for 9 months not being able to lift my legs or stand up.
Thankfully, over the past 5 months I have learned how to walk again through neuro rehab and Physiotherapy sessions with Stuart Cosgrove.
I am working everyday to get back 100% mobility.
Functional neurological disorder is a medical condition in which there is a problem with the functioning of the nervous system and how the brain and body sends and/or receives signals.
Before I was diagnosed, I had never heard of this condition, but FND Hope UK helped me to understand my symptoms and introduced me to the FND community. This made me feel that I am not alone.
FND Hope UK is part of the first & only global patient-led charity for people with Functional Neurological Disorder. Registed Charity England & Wales (1173607) and Scotland (SC048333) We are a force for change, uniting patients and their families with leading researchers and advocates to pioneer a new standard of care for FND. Our mission is to promote awareness, support affected individuals and advance research.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far, it means so much 🤍
