Story

Alexander (13 at end of July) and William (7) were supposed to be walking the full length of Hadrian's Wall in August 2020 to raise money for Tear Fund's toilet twinning campaign https://www.toilettwinning.org/. Due to the COVID situation and some of the hostels along the route not being able to safely open we have taken the decision to postpone this challenge. However, the boys still wanted to raise money and decided that between them they would walk and/or run a total of 500miles between them over the summer holidays to contribute to the wider campaign that  St Mary's Church in Ely are running. With the COVID pandemic taking hold across the world this seemed more important than ever. They  are looking to fund at least 4 of 150 (update: they are now aiming for 7) toilets that the Church are trying to twin this year.

Imagine what it would be like if you didn't have a toilet in your home. 1 in 5 people in the world do not. What would it be like if your school had no toilet? What would the playground be like if every child did one poo a day outside? If the poo gets into the water supply it gets into the drinking water. Lack of sanitation can cause the spread of germs and diseases and cause people to be ill on a regular basis. They miss school and parents are unable to work and earn money to pay for food, medical care and their basic needs.

For each £60 we raise, Toilet Twinning will twin one toilet. The money raised not only builds toilets but goes towards educating communities about the need for good sanitation and hygiene. By providing knowledge it gives people the ability to make choices. This is important so that people can make the link for themselves between frequent occurrences of diarrhoea, illness and childhood deaths.
