Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
All too often, parents of disabled children don’t know where to turn – they may feel isolated, powerless or depressed. School for Parents is based in my neighbourhood of Sneinton, in Nottingham, in fact they are based in the school my kids go to. Most of their work involves children with motor learning difficulties or motor development delay. They encourage these children to develop basic motor, sensory and self help skills such as sitting, standing, touching, listening, looking, eating and playing.
A key part of their work is to help parents understand and accept their child’s disability and teach them how to help their child. Staff give parents and siblings the emotional support they need to help them cope, as well as offering practical advice and information.
And I think that's awesome.
Through starting running I met Craig, who has a child at the School for Parents. He had the idea of running the half marathon to bring in sponsorship. I hope Craig will be able to join me on the run, but the point is he inspired me to finally deliver on a commitment I made to myself some time ago to do something to support this wonderful charity. If he doesn't run, who could blame him? He's got quite a lot on his plate. So sponsor me and give Craig a break, OK?!
