Story
Myself and three friends, Paul Stitt, Rui Rossa and Anthony Preston, are doing a Sponsored Cycle, From St Margaret's Hospice Clydebank Scotland on the 1st April 2017 to Kerrykeel, Co Donegal Ireland arriving on 3rd April 2017, a leisurely Cycle of approx 270 miles which for myself especially being an unfit non cyclist will not be easy. Will be taking place f
I am arranging a sponsored cycle to raise funds for this amazing hospice, this is where my sister Maureen Eileen Deeney (Friel),worked for a total of 10 years looking after terminally ill cancer patients.as a Ward Manager in the Mary Aikenhead wing.
In April last year this is where my sisters story changed, she was diagnosed herself with lung cancer after investigations into a very minor stroke. Maureen Eileen was then cared for by her hospice colleagues and friends where she received the most overwhelming care, she was treated as if she was a Queen as every single one of their patients are.
Unfortunately after a short battle Maureen Eileen passed away in the hospice on the 28th June 2016.
The care that all the staff gave Maureen Eileen was unbelievable, seeing it first hand for myself I was amazed at what all these special people do, not only for the patients but for their families.,We have a large family and most of my family came from Donegal Ireland and when they were over they were treated so well making sure everyone had always had enough to eat ,tea ,coffee etc., The care for everyone was second to none,Sister Rita and all the staff were just so thoughtful and caring to us all at our deepest saddest time.
All our family could never thank the staff enough for all the care and love that was given to us, we hope to raise as much as possible so these incredible people can continue with their great work that they do each and every day,
We would be so grateful for any donations no matter how small as all the funds together will help the hospice continue with their outstanding work caring for families when they absolutely need it the most.
Thank you for your support.
