Story
We're taking the 1815 Challenge for Waterloo Uncovered - please support me in raising money for veterans recovering from the traumas of war!
On Saturday 24th of July we will be marching 18.15km from the Duke of Wellington's Regiment Memorial in Halifax to Stoodley Pike. We will be undertaking this challenge wearing the redcoated uniforms of the 33rd Regiment of Foot (1st Yorkshire West Riding) as it would've appeared in 1815 at the time of the Battle of Waterloo (see Gallery).
The challenging route which we'll be marching will take us from the Duke of Wellington's Regiment Museum at Bankfield, down into Halifax town centre to the Duke's Regt memorial, past Halifax Minster where the colours (flags) carried by the 33rd at Waterloo are lodged, and then along the Rochdale Canal to Mytholmroyd where we will start our ascent to Stoodley Pike, originally built in 1815 as a monument to the end of the Napoleonic Wars. (See Gallery for route map).
We hope you will support us in our challenge!
Waterloo Uncovered combines world-class archaeology with a programme of care and recovery for veterans and serving military personnel suffering from some of the physical and mental impacts of their service. Since 2015 the charity has been excavating on the site of one of the world's most famous battles - Waterloo in Belgium. Due to Covid-19, they have been unable to visit Waterloo this year, and are instead running four Veteran Support Programmes in place of their excavation. By supporting my 1815 Challenge, you'll be raising vital funds to run these Support Programmes and help even more veterans find peace from war.
