Story
Thank you for visiting my page, as most of you may know that we are working in Gambia as part of our ongoing commitment to the long-term development to improve the infrastructure of The Gambian Health Service. We will be travelling with the Humanity First Medical UK in Nov 2018. Humanity First identified key areas of interest which included, pre hospital care, chronic disease, triage systems, referral pathways, medical education, surgical skills, and oral health. At this point the medical system is restricted to basic services and forces patients to travel to neighbouring countries for essential treatment.
So far we have been able to change the lives of over 120 patients with facial deformity and further to that we have assessed and treated over 2300 school children for cavities and removal of teeth as needed. We have also held over 110 lectures and workshops along with donating several thousand pounds worth of medical and dental equipment.
We have also renovated the polyclinic, children surgical ward and the dental laboratory.
Amongst other projects we are also attending to the children with special needs at the Hart House school for special needs.
We believe that the healthcare system can and must be improved. HF is committed to sending two teams a year in different times to work on this task, this being the second and third teams of the year and comprises of surgeons, physicians, paramedics, engineers, dental therapists and dental technicians.
The focus on this visit will be infrastructure, oral medicine and surgery, pre hospital care, medical education, infrastructure, and community dental care.
While HF recognises the scale of the task to bring some of these changes we remain ready to assist through expertise and wider support in assisting The Gambian people meet their aspirations for themselves and Africa.
This mamoth task of saving lives requires funding which can only be generated with your donations.
Donations can be accepted in materials and supplies as well, please email asif.hamid@uk.humanityfirst.org for specifics.
