Story
Hi guys
In 2016 I climbed Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Pen-y-Ghent in support of IKCA. Monies raised went to help finance the medical bills of cancer patients who were unable to afford to pay for treatment themselves. In 2017 I've climbed Snowdon, Ben Nevis and Whernside, again in support of IKCA.
Any support you can give would be much appreciated!
Bit of background to the charity - the first cancer hospital was founded by Imran Khan (yes the cricketer turned politician) in Lahore in 1994, in memory of his mother (Shaukat Khanum) who lost her battle with cancer in 1985.
Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH) was a Godsend for a country completely lacking in medical facilities to treat cancer patients.
I have visited the hospital in Lahore myself and seen the amazing work that is being done. The facilities are state of the art and compares or betters any hospital that I've ever visited in England. It's truly inspiring the work that is being done there to help cancer sufferers and their families from very poor backgrounds receive world class treatment and support.
Since 1994, the charity has come a long way - IKCA helps run the only cancer hospital in Pakistan, which provides state-of-the-art free cancer treatment to patients who can’t afford it.
Since its establishment, IKCA has spent in excess of £307 MILLION on providing FREE cancer care in Pakistan.
Annually, at SKMCH, they provide free cancer treatment to 75% of their patients. Other patients, depending on their financial situation, are offered subsidised treatment.
Last year, 10,654 new cancer patients were admitted to SKMCH. Doctors performed 74,658 surgeries; provided 655,074 radiotherapy treatments and 387,158 chemotherapy treatments. At IKCA, the bulk of spending goes into the cancer care services provided. Patients who can’t afford treatment are offered support from the outset. Everything is covered from the cost of medication and pathology to treatment and surgery.
I would be eternally grateful for any donation, no matter how large or small! This is a very worthy cause and one that is very close to my heart and family <3
