Little Black Dress Initiative 2021 · 22 March 2021

A week-long advocacy campaign using the iconic Little Black Dress to raise awareness of the effects of poverty in the Charleston community. All funds collected support the JLC's unique approach of addressing community needs with trained volunteers.

Story

Can one black dress worn for five short days create awareness about issues that affect others for a lifetime? The iconic Little Black Dress is usually thought of as just a fashionable wardrobe staple great for business or a fun night out. So why is the LBD at the center of an awareness campaign about poverty? This one outfit, worn for 5 consecutive days, is there to remind us of the struggle that so many women face as they strive to make a better life for themselves and their families. Many women only have one dress that they can wear and so wear it every day. Your kind donations allow the Junior League of Charleston to support women in their efforts to improve their situation in life.
