Story
Update : The note below was produced in August 2020. Sadly Dolly passed away on 18 January 2021, shortly after a positive Covid test. Please see the update below.
This page is our chance to pay tribute to an extraordinary woman, who made an indelible impression on the lives of all of us who were lucky to spend time in her company, whether as friends or family.

“Alzheimer’s is a cruel disease, it takes away the “life & soul” of the person who suffers from it. As you can see my mum Doris “ Dolly” Berwick was someone who loved life and had a lot of soul. She’s suffering from advanced dementia and for the last 2 years has been in full time care. Before then she lived all her life in Calder Vale in Lancashire. Until Covid-19 my Dad Russell would visit her everyday, but that’s a distant memory now.
To make up for that I’ve been walking everyday since the start of Lockdown, often with my Dad who’s a fit and healthy 89 year old. I’ve managed a minimum of 10k steps every day for 155 days. This adds up to 964 miles on 04 August 2020.
I decided to ‘virtually’ ’follow Mark Moxon’s walk from Lands End to John ‘o Groats, a distance of 1111 miles (https://www.landsendjohnogroats.info/route/).
So I’ve got another 147 miles until I reach journeys end or approximately 3 weeks with a following wind.
I would like to raise £1 for every mile for the good work that the Alzheimer’s Society continues to deliver and to honour my mum Dolly. She’s recovering from a broken hip, so isn’t walking much at the moment.“
