Story
Team Grosvenor are taking part in the JLL Property Triathlon on 26th June to raise money for the Doorstep Library.
Doorstep Library’s mission is to reduce the effects of long-term poverty through improving the educational potential of children from disadvantaged areas. These families live in areas selected for their high incidence of suffering from serious deprivation. The project engages parents in the education of their children. ‘Doorstep Libraries’ provide access to books that nurture the enjoyment of reading at home to children between 1 year and 11 years old. Each Doorstep Library has a team of 6-8 trained volunteers. They visit homes, bringing a rucksack full of children’s books to the same families each week. Our funds raised will train more volunteers and expand their business model further into deprived London boroughs. You can find out more about Doorstep Library at www.doorsteplibrary.org.uk
The Doorstep Library brings books and the magic of reading directly to the homes of children in some of London's most disadvantaged areas. Volunteers read with the children, lend them books, befriend the families and offer support. Poor reading skills are inextricably linked to economic disadvantage and reduced life possibilities. Our work improves not just reading skills, but confidence, self-esteem, articulacy, social integration, academic performance and even long-term employment prospects.
