Story
I know dementia from a personal experience with my late Grandma can be such a devastating condition that makes a person lose effectively who they are. With all of us now living longer, it's inevitable that it will unfortunately affect us in some way in the future. Currently without a cure for a wide range of different types of dementia, we desperately need improved treatments for those living with dementia today and better support for carers alike. And with a bit of extra funding, so much more important research can be done, that we might even be able to have a world one day where dementia no longer exists!
I've been planning on running (or at least will be attempting to) the Great North Run Half-Marathon for years now but have always found an excuse not to in the past. But now I'm into my 2nd year of doing a PhD on dementia research, I've thought what better way than run away from all of my responsibilities by training and giving the Great North Run a proper go! The Alzheimer's Society charity are also kindly sponsoring my PhD research so it makes sense to give something back for their support and raise important funds for such a worthy cause (and maybe try to get fit in the process too!).
So any help and extra motivation to get me through those miles, by kindly donating would be very much appreciated! Thank you 🙏🏼
