Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and showing your interest in Project Riandu. We need £300k. That's huge. But with your help, both through donation and through spreading the word, we will get there. There is one thing even better than a donation - and that is a donation and a sharing of this request with ten or more of your own social network/friends/family/colleagues with a request for your friends to join in and spread this further. Let's watch the compound effect of common humanity work its magic.
“our mutual interests are by no means restricted to business in any limited sense. Fellowship in recreation, fellowship in ideals, common hopes, common sympathies, and common humanity bind us together; and whatever fosters this happy union is valuable."
Jesse Boot, 1919
I am helping a broader effort to raise funds to build a secondary school for deaf teenagers in Riandu, Kenya.
According to the World Health Organisation [2012], 32million children worldwide live with disabling hearing loss. In some regions, disabling hearing impairment can have an even more profound impact on interpersonal communication, well-being, quality of life and economic independence due to a lack of access to education.
The Peter Cowley Africa Trust are working with local community partners on a really ambitious plan to build a secondary school for deaf children in East Africa - a specialist school for 200 students who would otherwise not get a secondary level education. The designs have been done. Fundraising is now urgently needed. Phase One breaks ground summer 2014 and our funding aim for this phase of the project is to raise £80k. The whole project is hoped to finish by 2017. Overall, we need to help raise £300k. For more information, please go to http://www.projectriandu.com/
