After scaling the heights of Mount Kilimanjaro in 2010 I have decided to join the Hospices Overseas Challenge; trekking to the fascinating ruins of Machu Picchu in Peru.  It is an absolute privilege to have another opportunity to travel to another part of the world whilst raising funds for an amazing cause.  Through my work with the Ayrshire Hospice Fundraising Department, I have witnessed the wonderful outstanding care and services the Hospice provides to those within our community suffering from life-limiting illness.  We require to raise £4M+ per year to continue to provide our care and services and any contribution you can give really will make a difference.

Our trek takes place in August 2012 trekking over 4 days.  This challenge takes us away from the well beaten tourist paths of the Inca Trail, escaping to the beautiful and remote wilderness of the stunning Lares Valley. The trek proceeds between rugged alpine peaks passing cobalt blue glacial lakes, untouched meadows grazed by alpacas, mysterious Inca burial tombs and small Andean communities, climaxing at Machu Picchu...

Our Chief Executive Aileen Anderson has also signed up for this fabulous challenge along with my colleague Carol McVicar from our Day Hospice Unit.  Other trekkers joining our team include Chris McMail whom I also had the privilege of sharing the experiences of Mount Kilimanjaro and Graeme Kirkwood who took part in our Great Wall of China Trek in 2009.  Our team is growing each week and as well as those mentioned we have a great team of keen and enthusiastic individuals joining us on this fabulous experience determined to reach their goal; completing this trekl and also raising much needed funds for The Ayrshire Hospice
