Story

Hi and thanks for visiting my JustGiving page! The photo is from the Great North Run last September - and I have now completed the Brighton Marathon!! It was a real killer and my legs are killing me - but I am really pleased I did it! I started out OK although the start was delayed for 20 minutes which didn't help, and the course had a lot of deceptive routes - lots of doubling back on yourself and a few killer hills. So by the 19th mile my left inner calf felt like it had a huge lump in it and the backs of my knees were really sore. I walked for 1 1/2 miles between mile 19 to 21 as I couldn't lift my legs and the course then was very bleak! Almost no supporters except some sleepy St John's ambulance people, runners falling down or stopping, and industrial estate, and then some school decided it would be v funny to construct a WALL - yes - v funny (not!) But when I could see mile 21 I thought I couldn't possibly walk another 5 miles as I would bore myself to death and let everyone down, so I ran the rest of the way! Time was 4 hours 35 mins on my chip, would have been under 4 hours if I hadn't walked. Next goal - London 2011......

You can still give to the Guide Dogs for the Blind on this page until the 18th July 2010 - they were amazing after the run with providing massages, tea and food.

Thanks again to everyone who has contributed!

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
