Story
The Story So Far ...
In April 2006, I was admitted to hospital with my first attack of Multiple Sclerosis. Although the diagnosis was devastating, and I've had many flare-ups of the condition that were quite limiting, I was very fortunate to discover Professor Jelinek's evidence-based "OMS Recovery Programme" a few years ago. By following this programme, I have reversed most of my MS symptoms, and I've chosen to celebrate by hiking the entire Gower Coast, 10 years on from that first episode.
The Team
When my family heard of my plans, many of them wanted to join me in this challenging trek, and so the "Gower Trekkers for MS" team was formed. We are:
Walkers:
- Angela Bockett-Pugh
- Ben Bockett-Pugh
- Bex Beadle
- Sarah Dickens
- Maggy Vince
Support Drivers/Chefs/Cheerleaders:
- Charles Bockett-Pugh
- Jatinder Seehra
- Mike Vince
The Charity
OMS has educated thousands of people in how to manage and even reverse the course of MS, using entirely evidence-based lifestyle and nutritional interventions. It is also undertaking a large international research project to measure the effects of following the OMS Recovery Programme.
Some early results of this research have already been published here: http://overcomingms.org/holism-study/ .
We want to help OMS to continue this valuable research and to spread the word about how to win against this potentially devastating disease.
OMS is an independent charity that receives no funding from any governments or corporations, and therefore relies on fundraising efforts like this one.
The Challenge
The Gower Coast Path is a 51-mile path that runs along the entire coastline of the Gower Peninsula in South Wales.
The route begins at the Loughor Estuary to the north of the peninsula, then runs anti-clockwise around the peninsula, ending up in The Mumbles, just west of Swansea. The route is challenging, with hilly stretches and a mixture of terrains, including marshlands, woodlands, downs and a few craggy patches that require a bit of agile scrambling!
Your Donation
You can see our team fundraising target on the right. Your donation can really help us smash this goal!
We are using the JustGiving platform for our fundraising because this is the OMS charity's preferred option. Donating through JustGiving is simple and safe. Your details are kept private and you won't get spam emails. Once you donate, they send your money directly to the charity. They also make sure that GiftAid (an additional 25%) is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. This means that more money goes to OMS, and faster, by donating this way.
Thank you for your support.
