Story
In 2013 we were first introduced to the Beads of Courage Oncology programme when Eilish was diagnosed with a Wilms' Tumour in Oct, She collected a different coloured bead, for each individual treatment or medical intervention, through her treatment until she passed away 51 weeks later in Oct 2014. Little did I know that after Eilish had collected 1036 beads, our family would yet again be thrown into the world of Oncology and the Beads of Courage when in June 2019 Aidan was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma. After 8 months of treatment at Addenbrooke's including 8 weeks of Proton Therapy in Manchester finishing in Jan 2020 he is in remission - however still collecting his beads.
Each bead and string of beads collected tells a story of the Journey that the children collecting the have had. The beads are something Tangible allowing them to tell their own story to family and friends as well as supporting everyone through their journey. They are the here and now..
