Fundraising for Stroke Association
Hi, I'm Glenn Collins and this is my story.
At the beginning of the year my Aunty had a stroke. This had a great impact on me as I look upon my Aunty as someone who is a fighter and never quits. For me to see her in intensive care hooked up to machines made me value the help and devotion the Stroke Association has to all of its patients. I am personally grateful for their efforts and care. My Aunty is out of hospital now but is still receiving care from the Stroke Association to get her back on her feet doing most of the things she used to enjoy, such as primary school teaching, driving and reading.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
When you donate, you will not be putting money towards the fund for me, or even my Aunty. You will be putting money towards every single person in the UK that has been affected by a stroke.
Each year an estimated 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke. Of all people who suffer from a stroke, about a third are likey to die within the first ten days, making strokes the Third Biggest Killer in the UK. About a third are likely to make a recovery within one month and about a third are likey to be left disabled and needing rehabilitation, which means strokes are the leading cause of severe disability. A Quarter Of A Million People are living with long-term disability as a direct result of strokes.
I am supporting a cause that is personal to me, but I am also grateful for all the effort they put into supporting their patients. For example here is a list of the Stroke Associations core activites:
Communication support service
Family and carer support
Stroke information service
Welfare grants
Research
Thank you for reading this, and supporting my efforts to raise both money and awareness of the Stroke Association and the work they do.
