The Wharfedale 3 Peaks is a new hill-walking challenge that takes in the summits of Birks Fell (610m), Buckden Pike (702m) and Great Whernside (704m), the three mighty fells that enclose Upper Wharfedale. The start and finish is Kettlewell, distance 32km (20 miles) with 1,150 metres of ascent.
Some of you will know that my lovely husband, Phil, was diagnosed with Advanced Prostate Cancer with spread to bones in September 2012, around the same time we lost 'our Wes' (Wesley the Westie).
Life has been very different since then and, at times, a real struggle, especially for Phil.
The problem with Prostate Cancer is that it affects all men differently and treatments that work well on some do not on others. Also, with each treatment the sneaky cancer finds a way round sooner or later so there is a need to continue to develop new treatments.
Phil has had a number of different treatments which may not have been available if it wasn't for Prostate Cancer UK (and other cancer charities), plus the charity also offers a lot of support, e.g. many publications and also help and support. The charity is at the forefront of lobbying the Government and medical bodies to push for all treatments to be available as necessary.
I have done other walking challenges, but this is one I haven't and so I would like to use the opportunity to raise money for this essential charity.
