Story

The College is delighted to announce that it will be working with Glasgow’s Spirit of Christmas Charity this year in support of their Children's Gift Campaign.

The community charity is in its seventh year of supporting local children affected by hardship or living in poverty. They support communities all over Glasgow and the surrounding regions in particular those children who could wake up on Christmas day to no toys, gifts or a hot meal.  Like the charity we believe every child deserves gifts on Christmas Day no matter what their circumstances are.  You can find out more about the charity and the campaign here: https://www.cultivatingmindfulness.org.uk/gsoc

The organisation offers support to children across 85 different charities across the city.  We would like the college community to support three of those of charities which serve the communities close to each of our campuses:

  • Aberlour Glasgow Southside is based in the South West Glasgow area in Pollok.  Aberlour support young people from some of our most deprived communities supporting them to overcome significant challenges such as growing up in or leaving care or dealing with the impacts of drugs and alcohol within their family life. To find out more about the charity click here: www.aberlour.org.uk
  • Children 1st Glasgow is a charity based in the South West Glasgow area in Govan but with a city-wide remit. This national charity exists to prevent abuse and neglect and to protect children and keep them same from harm. Over the past several years Glasgow Clyde College staff and students have supported the work of Children 1st through a variety of fundraising events. To find out more about the charity click here: www.children1st.org.uk/who-we-are/
  • DRC (Dumbarton Road Corridor) Youth Project is based in the North West Glasgow area in Yoker.  The project team provide an invaluable service to young people through the provision of sports, volunteering and educational activities.  To find out more about this charity click here    https://drcyouthproject.blogspot.com/2020/

There are two ways in which our college community can help support the Glasgow Spirit of Christmas Campaign:

  • By making a cash donation to this Just Giving Page www.justgiving.com/glasgow-clyde-college with 100% of the donation split evenly across the three charities above
  • By donating a gift to one of the three charities mentioned above.  All you need to do is follow the steps below:

Step 1 – Choose to make a gift donation on this page: https://glasgowsspiritofchristmas.org.uk/pledge

Step 2 – Select one of the three charities mentioned above from the drop down list (Aberlour Glasgow Southside, Children First or DRC)

Step 3 – Choose the gender and age of the child you would like to buy a gift for

Step 4 – Choose the number of children you would like to pledge a gift for from the number of children requiring support.

Step 5 – Confirm your donation and receive confirmation with the details of when and where to deliver your gift(s).

Step 6 – Please ensure that you drop your gifts to the location confirmed within the specified delivery window to ensure your allocated child receives your gift on Christmas morning. Or alternatively drop the gift off at one of the campuses.  Gifts can be handed into Estates or ICT at any site, who will lock them away until they are due to be collected and delivered to each of the three charities directly.

We know lots of departments like to take part in various fundraising opportunities at this time of year.  If you are planning to host anything from an online quiz to karaoke with your team to help raise funds for the Glasgow Spirit of Christmas Campaign please can you let us know by contacting organisationaldevelopment@glasgowclyde.ac.uk
so that we can share your efforts.
