Story
Family and friends,
Would you believe me if I told you that there are over 30 million people without health insurance in the United States? Or that roughly two-thirds of bankruptcies in the U.S. are tied to medical related expenses? Unfortunately, this is the sad reality that many of our neighbors have to deal with every day. Not having the means to pay for a healthcare emergency can add stress to an already terrible situation.
There was a time last year when I too was without health insurance coverage. I was struggling to find a job after graduating college and was scared should I have a medical emergency, my parents and I would be drowned in health care debt. While my experience only last a short period of time, there are many who live with a continuous fear of not being able to pay for large, unexpected medical bills for themselves and their families.
With that being said, I am so proud to be running the 2021 Chicago Marathon on behalf of Esperanza Health Centers. A nonprofit originally located on Chicago's southwest side, Esperanza has expanded to four locations and serves over 25,000 patients annually, regardless of their income, insurance status, or immigration status. My fundraising goal of $1750 will help fund the treatment for children and families served by Esperanza Health Centers.
This past year was a tough one for all of us, but with your support, we can spread some hope.
Thank you for your generosity,
- Giovanni
