Story

Hi Everyone

Woohoo I did it! 1 hour 46 minutes and loved every second of it!!!

Firstly A HUGE thank you for all your donations to 'The Beatson Pebble Appeal' and for supporting my challenge on Sunday, sore legs.....

Again THANK YOU, with your donations we have raised over my target of £1000!

My challenge was to complete the Glasgow Half Marathon on September the 4th, (two days ago and still have sore legs:) I managed to run it in 1 hour 46 minutes. I really didn't find it too difficult at all thanks to all the support of my friends and family.

The atmosphere was fantastic, the highlight was running over the Kingston Bridge in beautiful weather and meeting my family at the finish line. However being hosed with cool water and given yummy glasses of juice on route by local residents along the way made me smile at the spirit of the day and kept me going. I loved every second of it!

I thought of every one of you while running which helped me greatly (or maybe it was my sneaky bag of jelly beans;)

My donations page will remain open until the end of October to allow time for some of the organisations that have noted they still wish to donate this month and next.

Below are details of The Beatson Pebble Appeal Campaign that I am raising money for. This charity is close to my heart for so many reasons and I hope in some way with your help we can contribute to this wonderful charity that affects us all in so many ways but really and truly I am doing this for my Dad.

The Beatson Pebble Appeal was chosen by Dad and I am really keen to support his choice which I believe in 100%. Its such a worthwhile cause that touches us all not only for its great work in cancer research but also being so close to home for many of us.

The Beatson Pebble Appeal is a campaign to raise £10 million to build the first cancer research facility in Scotland dedicated to translational research.

This means that the staff in the new building will take the most recent scientific discoveries and convert them as soon as possible into new drugs and diagnostics for people with cancer.  It will be the first building of its kind in Scotland and will greatly speed up the process of turning the latest discoveries into treatments.

Building work started in the spring of 2011 and will be complete by autumn 2012. To date £8.7 million has been raised.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

The easiest way is to donate is here on line, it takes just a few minutes and you'll instantly see your donation on my page which is really nice. However if you wish to donate but would prefer to send a cheque or give cash just let me know, cheques made payable to 'University of Glasgow Trust'. The Beatson Pebble Appeal is run by Glasgow University Trust.

Thanks to all your kind and very generous donations we have raised over £1000 which is well over a target I never imagined we could meet. I am still waiting on some off-line donations to arrive therefore the total is not finalised as yet, I will let you know the total as soon as all donations are calculated.

Thank you again.
