Story
I decided to run the Belfast Marathon 2014 in memory of my uncle,
Ricky Fletcher.
My uncle ended his own life on the 20th December 2012.
His death devastated his 2 daughters, wife, brothers, sister, nieces, nephews and friends. Since he passed life has never been the same. He left a huge gap in all of our lives and he also left so many questions un answered.
I believe EVERY suicide is preventable and this is why I chose to run The Belfast Marathon to raise money for ACT NOW SOS!
ACT NOW SOS works with young people with the aim of preventing suicides. I was lucky enough to listen to a presentation given by some of the staff that work for this charity. I found their work inspirational - the staff work hard to raise awarness and aim to prevent unnecessary deaths.
This is 'my story', so to speak, and the reason I am annoying you all to sponsor me! : )
I may not raise much money but you never know if the extra bit I do make could help ACT NOW SOS to reach one more person and that could make a huge difference to that person and their family.
My Uncle Ricky wanted to work with young people with behavioural issues to help them chanel their negative energy in to boxing rather than crime so I feel he would like the fact this charity works with young people and aims to provide support and guidance to them.
I hope this explains why I'm doing what I'm doing anyway.
Thank you for all your support. It means a lot.
Gillian
