Story

My story is all about my sister Margaret who died of breast cancer in 2011 aged 55. Margaret had a very positive attitude in all areas of life and even during the long periods of treatment for her breast cancer. During this time Margaret was determined that her family and personal life would continue to be normal as possible.

Margaret was a truly inspirational woman who during her illness helped so many other women who also had breast cancer. She visited women who were about to have surgery and follow-up treatments and would talk to them about her own experiences. Because Margaret was so cheerful, she helped these women to face their anxieties much more positively. The personal support and care given to patients and their families is so important and Breast Cancer Care do a wonderful job!

Margaret had a remarkable sense of humour and loved to make people laugh. She lightened up the lives of her family, friends and colleagues and is a huge miss to us all. I know Margaret would find it incredibly funny that I would undertake a challenging trek to the Great Wall of China as exercise has never been my strong point! After all that's why the car was invented! A photograph of Margaret will accompany me on my journey along the Great Wall of China inside a silver locket which I wear all the time to keep her close to me!
