Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the 2020 Virgin London Marathon in it's 40th year and I'm soooo excited about it. 😁
I decided to raise funds for Nottingham University Hospitals for two reasons. City Hospital looked after my brother Andrew for many years as he suffered from Cystic Fibrosis, until he passed away in May 1998. The day after his death I decided I needed to do something to help the hospital who cared for him and decided the London Marathon would be great. I was a long time avid watcher of the marathon but never ran, never had and it seemed an impossible goal.
5 years before my brother died I was in a serious road traffic accident and my brother was in QMC hospital (with my parents and partner) to support me through the procedures, having been a regular in hospitals himself. Without the spinal surgery and care I had been given from QMC I doubt very much I'd be a runner now. I have a titanium cage in my spine and 2 rods attached either side from almost neck to waist. And I’m proud to say I’m a runner. Thank you QMC spinal unit ❤️
Because of these two reasons I am raising funds for Nottingham University Hospitals and splitting these funds between the Cystic Fibrosis Unit at City Hospital and the Spinal Unit at QMC. Amazing units in their own right helping so many people and deserving much needed funds.
It's my way of being able to give back and to thank the units and the people involved in caring for both my brother and me.
So, 22 years later I run in memory of my brother as a thank you for the care he received and the care I have received that allows me to do the London Marathon 2020. #22yeargoal
Thank you all in advance, Georgina ❤️🥰 XX
