Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising site and considering making a donation to the Muscular Dystrophy UK Family Fund – Georgie’s Genes.
I have entered theTiree Ultra Marathon (35 miles on trail, beach and cross country around the island of Tiree on Scotland’s West Coast) on 8th September to raise funds for research into my daughter Georgie’s very rare Muscular Dystrophy condition, L-CMD.
L-CMD is so rare that there is little knowledge about the disease progression and there are only a handful of children in the UK that have this, as yet, incurable, degenerative and life-shortening condition.
In three years, we have raised approximately £55,000 all of which goes towards funding research into the condition. Working closely with Muscular Dystrophy UK and Cure CMD, an American charity, the money raised so far is already funding a study investigating genetic modifiers which will help with better understanding the condition and planning when clinical trials for drugs become available.
Having recently attended a Cure CMD conference in Chicago and met children and families also living with the condition, it has reaffirmed to me how important further research is. By participating in the Tiree Ultra Marathon, I will raise more funds to support the next stage of research and development and hope that this will help find a treatment and one day a cure.
