Story
This page has been created by George's friends to raise funds in his memory for the Cancer Research Trust at Charing Cross Hospital, where he received treatment for a brain tumour. George lost his heroic battle with cancer in February 2016, at the age of 23.
George had many interest but perhaps his biggest passion was football. At 16 George, Elham and I tried out for Old Meadonians FC and we were given a start in the 9s. The three of us, all friends since the first year of school, played alongside, and against, 'proper' men. We felt at home at once, and stayed loyal to the 9s; George continued to play throughout his treatment, until his illness made it impossible for him.
It was his love of the game, and the team he played for, that has inspired the first fundraising event - a charity football match between Old Meads 9s and other friends close to George. The match will take place on Saturday 26th August, the day before George would have turned 25. The second event is a 10k run, which is due to happen in late October.
Our aim is to raise £2,740. This sum will go towards a day of research that will be dedicated to George, whilst his name will also be added to the 'Wall of Hope' at the cancer ward of Charing Cross Hospital. George's friends and family also feel it is very important to raise awareness for this awful disease, so anything anyone can donate will aid research and development into the treatment of brain cancer.
