Story
Hi, I have set myself the target of running 11 half marathons in 2011, to raise money for The Stroke Association, in memory of my Godmother Rose Filmer.
I began as early as possible, I completed the "Recovery Run" at Wicksteed Park near Kettering on New Years Day, it was a lovely day (well wet and windy) but i did complete the distance in 2 hours and 8 minutes.
On Sunday 20th February I completed the Sleaford Half Marathon in Lincolnshire in a time of 2 hours and 5 minutes, a new personal best!
I did the Shakespeare Raceway Half Marathon at Stratford Upon Avon on Saturday 5th March in 1 hour 59 minutes and 59 seconds! Another new personal best, spurred on by Nigel who paced me for the race.
I had a bit of a hitch over Easter, missed a couple of races in April due to illness, so the schedule has been refined a bit. I have signed up for/chosen the following half marathons as my remaining target races, the races are all half marathons (13.1 miles):
I did the Malvern half marathin on Sunday 29th May in 2 hours 24 minutes, and ran the Birmingham & Black Country Half Marathon on Saturday 2nd July with some friends in 2 hours 38 minutes, not bad for no training at all!
I survived my first Trail run at Wyre Forest Half, on Sunday 10th July, did it in 2 hours 30 mins, hard work, lots of hilly bits but lovely countryside.
Few, have now done Leek, on Sunday 21st August (2h25m03s) fab scenery and views but my god that was hilly, my poor knees! The Carver half marathon, Wolverhampton, Sunday 4th September was a bit more gentle, did it with a firend running his first half, in 2h24m18s.
Woo hoo! Did Coventry Half Marathon today (2nd Oct) in 2 hours 2 minutes, nearly a PB and my fastest for ages, not bad given the really hot day.
The final stretch! Wont be doing Wombourne in October because I be in Paris (ha!) but will be doing Birmingham, Sunday 23rd October and Long Marston Raceway/Stratford on Saturday 19th November. If all goes to plan I will finish with a month to spare.
In reserve: Peterborough, October & Depford, December.
If you feel able, please do sponsor me. I will update this page as I go through the year, thanks for looking, George.
