Story
Hello all :)
Over the next few months, I'll be subbing pints for pavements as I train to run The London Marathon. I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation, I'd be so grateful for your support!
Ever since the age of 12, after watching the immensely talented Simon Pegg hobble over the finish line in the breathtaking classic 'Run, Fat Boy, Run' (nominated for Best Foreign Comedy Trailer at the Golden Trailer Awards 2008), the London Marathon has always been a dream of mine and for it to now to be set in my sights is a true honour. I will embrace the journey as I set the goal of running 26.2 miles/42km in under 3 hours 30.
My inspiration to take on the challenge in aid of the BHF comes from my Great uncle Michael. After having a lifesaving heart transplant 27 years ago, at the age of 49. His donor was a 14-year-old boy who lost his life in a traffic collision. Mick has since accumulated a long list of impressive sporting achievements that are beyond belief.
Michael was on the heart transplant list for three years after having a heart attack while playing tennis in Bude in December 1990. Michael's quality of life was' inferior', and he made regular trips to the local hospital.
"I could only take a small amount of liquid food, and normal food tasted awful, and I couldn't drink tea. I suffered from internal pains and was mainly bed-ridden, wondering if I would ever receive that lifesaving phone call."
Since receiving that lifesaving phone call and obtaining a heart transplant, Mick has raised over £30,000 for BHF. Mick's Accomplishments include:
- Climbing one of the world's highest active volcanoes
- Gold medals at the World Transplant Games
- Medals at the British Transplant Games
- The London Marathon
- 26 marathons in 26 days
- 6 Peak Challenge within 60 hours
Thanks for visiting my page. It's such a great charity, so please, please, please donate. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK, but sadly, hundreds of people lose their lives every day. It's only thanks to supporting people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps, so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thank you!
