We provide nursing & end of life care to local children

Story

Two daring nurses will be swapping their scrubs for jumpsuits soon when they take the challenge of a lifetime with a sky dive.from 10,000 feet.

Gemma Jones and Viki Eccles from the  Gobaithchildren’s hospice in the Conwy Valley will be leaping out an aeroplane over the Shropshire countryside in a tandem skydive to raise money for the place they love so much.

The pair have worked together at the hospice caring for seriously ill children for a combined 10 years and are taking the lofty challenge to raise funds for the charity.

Gemma said: “We’ve never done anything like this before.

Viki is scared of heights and couldn’t even walk across a bridge in Snowdonia recently, so it should be quite a challenge.”

Viki said: “We saw it advertised and thought we had to do it to raise money for the hospice.

“We’re both nervous and excited but hope our friends and the local community will get behind us and donate whatever they can.

Both Gemma and Viki have spent time working on busy hospital wards in Alder Hey and Ysbyty Glan Clwyd but have a particular fondness for their work at the hospice.

“It’s a privilege to work with so many seriously ill children and give them the best possible care and memories we can,” said Viki.

With Gemma adding: “Making the children who stay with us and their families as comfortable as possible is very rewarding.”
