London Marathon 2021 · 3 October 2021 ·

We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and to raise awareness.

Story

I must be crazy but I have been given a place to run in the LONDON marathon 2021 (yes I cannot believe it). I am running for Crohns and Colitis UK, a charity which I am very passionate about. If you know me then you'll know why this is so important and means so much to me. Having been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis back in 2013, I didn't understand or truly know what colitis, crohns or Inflammatory bowel disease was. This was when my nurse specialist and consultant turned me to Crohns and colitis UK charity. It has been a big support system for all these years for me and also for my friends and family.

Being an avid runner, back in 2013, I didn't even know if I would be possible to run long distances again due to the effects colitis has mainly on my body but also mentally. It has taken a long time and a few set backs but I was finally in remission at the start of 2021 and in great health.

I want to give back to Crohns and Colitis UK. During covid and the first lockdown , I was in the shielding category and not being able to go to work was mentally and physically tough. The only thing I was allowed to do outside the house was run and do exercise.. Running is my passion and I fell in love with it all over again.

**I have unfortunately relapsed  had a flare up since training began and currently working through with the drive, determination and passion even greater to complete the marathon and thinking of those suffering that can’t run or unable to.**

Partaking in the London marathon is dream come true (crazy and mad dream be it). To fundraise for a charity very close to my heart, raising as much awareness about IBD and highlight the amazing work this CCUK charity does. To help those who are maybe struggling with initial diagnosis and unsure where to go and to educate those who may not be aware of how this charity has helped thousands of sufferers and their families, creating a friendly and supportive environment and to shy away from the stigma surrounding inflammatory bowel disease. #Ittakesguts.

Of course, any help, words of wisdom and support would be amazing and greatly appreciated.

Let the marathon adventure begin! Yeah
