Gautam's Bath Half, from Singapore
Fundraising for Helen & Douglas House
Fundraising for Helen & Douglas House
I am running the Bath Half marathon (in Singapore) for Olivia Kershaw, the amazing daughter of Bex and Simon Kershaw. Olivia is just over a year old and is sadly really struggling. She was infected with a parasite before she was born, the chances of this happening are 1:100,000. The parasite caused an inflammation in her brain and eyes. She’s a serious fighter but following three months of intensive care, three brain operations and a long list of other procedures Olivia has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, blindness and other afflictions.
Twenty of us who are close friends affectionately dubbed "The Bath Crew" are running the Bath Half in order to raise money for Helen & Douglas House, a charity that provides palliative care for terminally ill children and that has really excitingly agreed to host Olivia. Together, the 20 of us will aim to raise an ambitious £21k for such a deserving charity.
The joy on Olivia's face when she laughs and giggles is just magic and the dedication of her outstanding parents Bex and Simon is astonishing and puts into perspective any troubles/heartaches I have in life.
Whilst I am no stranger to the half marathon distance, this particular run and fund raising have motivated me more than any other I have undertaken.
My hope is for you to also feel the urge to help this outstanding charity in their efforts to help children such as Olivia.
With love,
Gautam
