Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We Gaul's are a very close knit family who enjoy and have fun spending time together ( usually with food involved !) . Whilst a few of us have done individual charity challenges in the past , this year , we've decided to take it a step further and complete a challenge together - hopefully still having fun as a family but raising money for a good cause at the same time !!
We've chosen to raise funds for CHSS as this is something very close to our hearts this year . Our dear Auntie - Elma Fraser ( nee Gaul) is currently being treated at the Rehabilitation Unit at Woodend Hospital following a stroke in July . She is receiving excellent care and making good progress but we know that any funds we can help to raise for CHSS will help her and also her family to support her through recovery as well as numerous other lives affected by stroke .
Also this year we've lost 2 other close family members to Chest and Heart related illness - our uncle , Dick Simpson who passed away at the end of May and our cousin , Alison Morrison who passed away at the end of August . We want to do this challenge and raise funds in their memory too .
The Gaul Family team covers an age span from 16 to 50 and between us our running experience is not huge however we are all willing to give it a go for a good cause with your support .
First to enter and the oldest in the team is Gill - stepping up from the odd 5k run along the Prom in Kirkcaldy to completing a 10k with obstacles Is just the challenge she needs as she's just turned the big 50 !! Then there's sister Fiona who can regularly be spotted on a early morning run round the streets of Dumfries but who hasn't ran a 10k for a good few years now . Joining them is soon to be sister in law , Hazel who , although she has run in the past , has been more at home in the bike saddle in recent years having cycled Land's End to John of Groat's last July . Completing the girls team are the youngsters , Fiona's daughter Katie and Hazel's daughter Iona - although neither have run much other than at school PE , they're fit as well as beautiful young girls so they should be able to keep up with their mums and beat their auntie no problem !!
Then there's brother Alan . Fairmers are not famed for their running prowess and he openly admits that he's never knowingly run anywhere since 'cross country with Dendo at Turra school in 1986 ' !. What could he do when his big sisters , his fiancée and the girls all entered - he couldn't possible let the women of the family take all the glory so he has decided to join in . He possibly has the steepest training curve to get through but in the capable hands of his personal trainer , Hazel , he's confident he'll be there and able to join in the fun - whether he is leading the pack or taking up the rear will remain to be seen !
Together we are sure we'll have the '' Gaul " to succeed In this family challenge . Any donation you feel you can give us , no matter how small , to support us in our challenge will however be very gratefully received . Thank you in advance for your support and we'll let you know how we get on !!
