Story
“No more now Lou Lou!” said Gary when the irrepressible Sidney came into our lives five years ago joining his brother Marley.
Well, I can tell you he soon changed his tune when my wonderful friend Susie shared a post from Rochdale dog Rescue only three short weeks ago! A family conference (us, the two dogs and two cats) was immediately convened after reading Daisy’s story (photos below, you will see why we were immediately smitten) and the majority vote (cats dissenting 😂) was that we would apply to be considered to adopt this little cherub.
Whilst it is heartbreaking to read many dogs stories (often the dogs are spared from being put to sleep) it is also heartwarming to then later read their success stories and descriptions of previously abused and unloved dogs going to their forever loving homes.
Everyone at the Charity has these dogs very best interests at heart. Applicants wishing to adopt must be vetted thoroughly, the dogs’ often specific needs matched to their prospective adopters, and a home check undertaken. (Would you believe 50 people wished to adopt our Daisy??) This all takes time, and an enormous amount of goodwill from the volunteers. Meanwhile every effort is made to temporarily home each dog with a foster carer as opposed to going into kennels. Special mention here must go to Tracy Flowers who has been so generous with her time and love in caring for our beautiful Daisy after she was handed over by her previous owner. She had a bad start in life but seeing her positively thrive at Aunty Tracy’s you would never believe it!
When a dog arrives at their forever home they have been fully wormed, flead, and vaccinated and if needs be neutered, which comes at considerable cost. They only ask for a modest amount on adoption, which cannot begin to cover all their costs. They rely entirely on donations and people’s goodwill.
I am delighted to be able to do something to support RDR and give something back to them. Please help me try and raise as much money as possible for these wonderful people at RDR!
