Story
Did you know that 1 million children in the UK are receiving treatment for Asthma? One of them is my 5 year old daughter, Izzy, who has been battling this horrendous condition for the last 3 years. Watching your child struggling to breathe and being powerless to stop it is absolutely terrifying. When symptoms first started to show and her first attack happened its fair to say we did not know where to turn or what really to do. A couple of visits to A&E and the GP did not really shed much light on the way forward - Asthma is extremely difficult to diagnose in children and there was little follow up guidance given after the initial treatment for the episode itself.
That's when we stumbled on Asthma and Lung UK. They have asthma nurses always available at the end of the phone and from the very first call to them, they were AMAZING. They have given us invaluable support, advice and practical guidance on managing Asthma - providing valuable information on triggers, how to avoid them, how to manage episodes and even on treatment options which we have then been able to discuss with the GP. and have ended up forming part of Izzy's treatment plan. Without Asthma UK and their support, the route to a diagnosis and effective treatment plan would undoubtedly been far longer and more stressful and we will always be grateful to them and their incredible staff and volunteers.
That's why I'm running the London marathon to raise money for Asthma UK. Just £22 allows one of Asthma + Lung UK's nurses to answer a call on the Helpline, offering potentially lifesaving advice to someone in need. Any donation you could make would be greatly appreciated and will make a real difference.
